Michigan - what's good about it?

So less than 3 weeks until my move and I'm trying to think of what's good about Michigan... my cousin who lives in GA claims that you can only get good pizza in the north. Sorry, but the best pizza I've ever had is Papa Johns Barbeque Chicken & Bacon, and yes, that's here in TN. I'll for sure be giving the local Papa John's a try when we get into MI. When I think of pizza, I think of breadsticks. And since I started thinking of breadsticks, I haven't been able to stop thinking about cheesedip - not just any cheese dip, but McPhee's cheese dip. There's not another place I know that makes bar cheese like that. I make some decent cheese dip, but it really doesn't compare. Anyone know anyone that works or has worked at McPhee's? What's in that stuff?

Ok, so the best things in MI are McPhee's bar cheese, Cooks Ice Cream.... what else? I can find Western Dressing up there - not that I'm a big salad eater... The sales tax is less... why am I drawing a blank?

Okay, since everyone else is a wimp, I’ll be the one to stand up, do the leg-work, and defend Michigan!
Here’s a sampling of what Michigan has to offer;

Michigan is home to the worlds… largest cement plant, largest limestone quarry, largest registered Holstein dairy herd, largest manufacture of magic supplies, only floating post office (The J.W. Westcott II boat), & only marble lighthouse (on Belle Isle)

Michigan produced the worlds first…. air conditioned car, soda pop (Vernors), state police radio system, shopping mall (Northland Mall), tunnel built between two nations (Detroit-Windsor tunnel), and urban freeway (Davison freeway).

Michigan introduced the nations… first university (U of M), first zoo to feature cageless open-exhibits that allowed the animals more freedom to roam, first constitutionally provided public libraries, guarantee of the right to tax-paid high school education for children, first assigned phone numbers, & fluoridated city water

Michigan is the birthplace of… Gerald Ford (38th President of US), Madonna, Bob Seger, Charles Lindbergh, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Tom Selleck (Magnum P.I. – need I say more?), Lily Tomlin (Actress), Gordie Howe (NHL), Earvin “Magic” Johnson (NBA), Henry Ford (Model T), Daniel Gerber (yes – the baby food), Malcolm X, & Walter P. Reuther (UAW)

Michigan has…the worlds largest freshwater coastline, more than 11,000 inland lakes and 36,000 miles of streams, SANDERS HOT FUDGE, LifeSavers, Faygo, Vernors!, pasties, & paczkis!

And, last but NOT least… If you’re from Michigan you can… show people where you're from by pointing to a spot on your hand, travel coast-to-coast in a matter of hours, count on a White Christmas, visit the mountains (porcupine) & desert (sand dunes), & obtain venison with ease!

Guess it's good to love where you live. Some of us, however, will always feel out of place. Read the Michigan Pronunciation Guide at http://www.michigannative.com/ma_home.shtml ... gawd, I probably sound like a total poser down here. Try to add a little twang to what is certainly a Michigan accent coming out of my mouth - I wonder how I really sound to true southerners.

I guess I have to accept my fate to drink pop, bake with soda, wash the salt off my SUV weekly for half the year, and reaquaint myself with the sport of pothole (and orange barrel) dodging.

And just to point out, all those famous people that were born in Michigan - most of them MOVED!
